World Without Sundays
I know it's been nearly a week since this happened, but I want to post about it anyway. Because this is my blog, and I can do what I want. Hee.
So last Saturday Sarah came down from Wisconsin. We went to Woodfield for a bit, did a little shopping, and then headed out to Rockford. A band we'd heard a bit about, World Without Sundays, was playing at Kryptonite.
We found the bar without too much trouble. Really neat place! It was quite small, but not seedy or dirty at all. And they had the best damn bar bathrooms ever, ever in the world. Wow. I wanted to take a picture, they were so cool. *laugh* The show was late starting due to an earlier power outtage, so we kinda hung out and did a little drinking and chit chatted. Then WWS went on. They were SO GOOD! I usually like to hear my music before I see someone live in concert, and I'd only heard a few songs via their website, but they were awesome. Looked like they were having SO much fun up there.
I love it when people have fun. I do. So that was great. And it turns out, they are an LA-based band. When they were finished, I wanted to buy an album and I wanted to ask one of them where they usually play in LA, so that I can perhaps go see them when I'm out there. There were some fangirls with suckers on, however, and I didn't really get the chance to go over to the merchandise table.
The next band, Harmony Riley, was playing. They were good, but I didn't enjoy them *quite* as much as WWS. Somewhere in there, we managed to purchase CDs from the fangirls. HR played a looooooooong set. At the end, though, they invited Shox (the lead vocalist from WWS) up to sing a few cover songs with them. That was really neat. Shox and Miles (I think that's his name) looked like they were having a ball. They were goofing off and laughing and forgetting the words and basically being huge dorks. Which was fun. Hee.
After everything was over, I had been trying to work up the courage to talk to ONE of the guys about LA. Finally, Adam, the drumer, walked by. I stopped him and asked where they usually played in LA, which turned into a 30-minute conversation. SO nice! He pulled Guy, the bassist, over to chat, too. Both of them were great, and if I hadn't been impressed with them before, I would definitely have been after talking to them.
They'll be back in Chicago/Rockford again in July or August. Which is just about the time I'll be moving, but if I'm still here when they come through again, I definitely want to see them. And if not, I'll catch 'em on the West Coast.
I'm so excited to have another band to rotate through my stereo! I've had their album on constant repeat in the car. They've even displaced JC for now. Shock! Horror! Shame! I really miss seeing live shows, so it was great to do that again. Yay!
