I hear the voices when I'm dreaming, I can hear them say

I have had this song in my head for days. Since it was used as the Previously on Supernatural Music Video thing they did before the episode last week. Do any of you watch Supernatural? Love! What's not to love? A show about two (hot, *ahem*) brothers, made by some of the X-Files folks? Yes, please.

Anyway.

My allergies have been really horrible lately. Last year, I don't think I had any allergy attacks, and I was all California is wonderful! I have no allergies here! and that's just not true this year. I mean, California's still wonderful, but the allergies, oy. For the past week my ears have been just about constantly plugged and I'm sneezing and sniffling and headachey, and I wish it would just GO AWAY. Meh. I might have to find my way to a prescription for something stronger than the Claritin-D I've been taking.

My cat is a spaz. She's acting like a teenager, pressing her luck at every turn. She scratches at the couch, I tell her, Monet, no scratching the couch! You know this! and she stops and looks at me and ducks her head, and the *moment* I turn my attention away from her again she will do one more little couch-scratch! Just to see if I'm paying attention! This is the same for jumping on my one full-of-breakable-things bookshelf (she never climbs onto the ones that just have books on them) and chewing on the cardboard box my roommate is using to ship something in. It's like she's testing me.

And that is all for today. Doin' laundry. Yee-haw!

Oh, the perils of LA

I spent about three hours outside on a glorious Southern California day. Gentle breeze, not a cloud in the sky, probably mid-80's. I was reading Lucky by Alice Sebold and drinking ice water and listening to my ipod, and for a while, dangling my feet in the pool. At first, it was so, so cold. By the end, I could almost imagine swimming in it. I'll give it a few weeks to warm up in the sun, though. I could totally get used to this.

I did, however, get a bit of a sunburn. It didn't feel that hot, but it tricked me! Both forearms, left upper arm/shoulder, across my chest, both knees. Ow. I had sunscreen on my face and arms, but it's my knees that got burned the worst. I'd started out wearing jeans, and then switched into my bathing suit and a cute little terry cloth skirt, and never thought to put sunscreen on my legs. Oops. I forget how quickly my skin soaks up the first sustained sunshine of the season.

Even despite the sunburn, it was a wonderful day off. But now I'm exhausted from too much doing nothing, too much sun. Bed now, and it's back to the gind tomorrow.

Family

It's been a weekend full of family. My parents arrived Thursday afternoon with the car. We went to dinner at El Torito, which was delicious. and they saw the apartment, met the kittens. On Friday (after my horrible day at work), Mom and Dad picked Jess up at the airport and Gen, Nora (who is visiting) and I met them at Cheesecake Factory. Two hours later, we ate.

On Saturday, we took a dry run for Jessica's internship, then went to the Getty Center. We took a garden tour, which was very interesting. The gardens are still in their winter bloom, so I definitely have to go back during the summer. We ate at the cafe (good food!) and then saw some of the artwork. The Impressionists, as always, are my favorite. I remembered why I like Pissarro and rather dislike Cezanne. And they had a few Monets, which made me happy.

After that, we went to see Inside Man. Good movie. Go see it. :)

Then, we grabbed some cheesecake and went down to the airport hotel where Mom and Dad stayed for the night before taking off yesterday morning. It was so nice to see them and to spend time together, the four of us. I miss that.

Yesterday Jess and I did some shopping for odds and ends she needed, and that was about it.

So, Jess is here for three months. It'll be a good time, good to have her.
