So, I might be a little bit obsessed. I'm going to look back at this photojournal and just shake my head, I know it.

Yesterday, I returned two things to Target for $43 and received an unexpected $25 in the mail, leaving me with $68 I hadn't had earlier that day. The extra money was burning a hole in my pocket, so I went to CostCo and got this. It's the Ultimate Superman Collector's Set: fourteen discs, including "seven" movies (really meaning five, but two versions of two of them). And it was only $62!

The real motivation, other than the fact I haven't watched the old Superman movies in well over a decade, is that Gen has NEVER seen a Superman movie! I just... I can't believe anyone born after 1968 got past the age of ten without seeing a Superman movie! That's like, not ever having seen Star Wars! With the number of times I watched both those sets of movies as a kid, it just boggles my mind.

"Don't get stuck in a Tax Crunch, make this April 15th a PayDay! Make yourself More Money, maybe even $100Grand!"

Right. Moving on.

Clark Bear is finished! I got his glasses, jeans, and shoes yesterday. I was looking for black glasses, but this was the only pair left in the store, not even packaged or tagged with a price. The shirt does say "Mickey" along the bottom there... I couldn't find any kind of button-down shirt to fit him, and finally found this infant shirt at the store. 0-3 months was still too big for little Clark Bear, so it took a little altering, but it works now for the most part.

I think he's awfully cute. It's his eyebrows, I think, that are the best part.

Family Christmas was a success. It was really nice to have everyone together for once, which hasn't happened in a looooong time. We munched on snacks, opened stockings, and exchanged gifts, then played that fabulous Pirates of the Caribbean LIFE game that Ryan gave us. Fun! Even moreso because I won. *laugh* Afterwards, and because it's one of the only places open after midnight, we went to Mel's Diner for dessert.

This picture was my first attempt at using the self-timer, which is why I kind of just look squished in there. We are, left to right, Sean, Caitlin, Gen, me, and Ryan.

My very, very dirty (OMG, embarrassingly so!) little blue Malibu had about as craptastic a day as I did. And it came through it all spectacularly, without a scratch on it. Oh, I love my little blue Malibu! This morning, on the way to work, we (my car and I) were rear ended. My second rear-ending since moving to California two and a half years ago, and my second rear-ending of my life. What is it with LA drivers? Bah.

Anyway, as you can see, we're fine. Traffic was moving happily along at about 65 mph when everyone in front of me slowed down. So I slowed down. And the toothless guy in the crappy car behind me did NOT slow down. I suppose he hit me going only a few miles per hour faster than I was, but it scared me a bit! Especially when I started to think of how I could have hit the car in front of me, or I could have been spun out into traffic. He didn't want me to call his insurance company, told me over and over in broken English, and I kind of felt like a little snot in my power skirt suit and cell phone and, well, not a BMW or anything by a longshot, but a nicer car than the one he was driving, but I was pissed. So I took his info and took my car into the shop to make sure there was no hidden damage, and $300 later (on totally unrelated repairs), it seems to be fine. I guess he's off the hook.

This has been on the bulletin board at work since, gosh, before I started working there. It's in the midst of pictures and required postings and motivational thingamajigs, and I just took it as a whole bulletin board of stuff, never really looking at any one thing. I'm pretty sure I glanced over what Jake is "saying" there, and stopped somewhere around Look at those girls! and never read any further.

Today, I read the whole thing (not that it's long...), and boy did I have a laugh. Because I know that handwriting, and it's Jason, an ex-teller, who wrote it. I don't know why I found it so funny, or why it took me nearly eight months to see it, but there you go.

Yesterday, we had a bank-wide operations meeting at corporate. I don't know if it was the nearly two-hour door-to-door commute each way or just some atmospheric stupidness, but I had the most killer headache known to man. I cancelled my dinner plans and fell right to sleep on the couch by 6:30.

Around 9, I pulled myself up off the couch, took off my suit from work, and fell into bed. Then I realized I hadn't taken a picture yet. So I got up, stumbled out into the kitchen, and took a picture of the first thing I saw, which happened to be... the window. With the pool behind it. Not at all the coolest thing in the world, but I totally didn't care.

I slept nearly 12 hours, which I don't think I've ever done, ever. I slept in my make-up and jewelry and the shirt I wore to work. And I still have the damn headache. If it wasn't for the fact my teller supervisor is in training today and one of the tellers has the day off, I'd definitely call in sick. Maybe I'll leave early. If I can.

I was holding this over as an "if I don't have anything else to take a picture of" picture. Today was kinda that day. It IS Game Night, which is cool, but I already took a picture of Game Night. Work was uneventful. We DID have a pretty awesome sunset, but I was driving in rush hour traffic (not enough to be stopped, but enough to really have to pay attention) so I couldn't stop to take the picture. Glasses Kitty it is.

We had a client once, a dirty old man, who wanted to special order $100,000 in cash. Because his lifelong dream had been to ROLL NAKED IN ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS. I mean, WTF?! We did not accomodate his request for a variety of reasons, but the biggest reason in the back of our minds was who gets to count it when he brings it back for deposit? Yeah, NO. Ew.

Tonight, I went to see Children of Men. It was powerful and thought provoking and I liked it. This... is the concessions stand at the good old Burbank AMC 16. I used to frequent this theatre. In fact, it's just about the only theatre I saw movies at for a year and a half, but ever since moving to this apartment, we've been going to the Galleria. Much closer.

So, Bears won today, huh? As promised, I did not watch the game. I'm not the world's biggest fan of football anyway, so it's okay. I will probably watch the Super Bowl, though. The last time the Bears were in the Super Bowl, I was five. We had a party and ordered alligator pizza and decorated the fridge like the Refrigerator and got 3D glasses to watch the Super Bowl Shuffle. My parents also put the little TV in my room (SO COOL!) so we kids could watch Charlie Brown videos. Hee. Go Bears!

Today is the day my battery died. I'll take comfort in the fact that this was a pretty long charge for a battery, being that I got the camera on Christmas and have taken multiple pictures every day since, not to mention having used the display to show the pictures many times. So, it's charging for the first time evah.

That said, I didn't get any fancy-pants or even interesting pictures today. Also, the time stamp is set for Chicago, so the pictures I DID take look like they were taken tomorrow. Whatever.

Today's uninteresting photo is my desk here at home. It's my favorite part of my desk, because it's the part that's least messy. I especially like my old Illinois license plate. I often wish I could stick it back on my car, just because. It's so much prettier than my California plates! And I used to come up with all kinds of things the FBF could stand for (it was randomly assigned). All I could settle on was that the 'B' was for Blue, since my car is, well, blue.

Anyway, all the things on and around my desk are things that make me happy. Yay!

Today was a wasted day at work. Our heat/air is always absolutely opposite the outside temperature, so it was especially stifling hot inside. That, combined with the Slowest Day Ever, made for a day of goofing off and not really working. Gotta have one of those days every so often.

Today's picture is Leroy, the Office Ewok. The boys spent the day playing with Leroy around the office. "This is Leroy doing the encoding." "This is Leroy stuffing envelopes." And this picture? "This is Leroy on a jungle adventure." The boys also spent the day looking up pictures of Ewoks on Google, which morphed into an all-out display of Star Wars geekdom.

Does anyone remember the Ewok movies? Ewoks: The Battle for Endor with Cindel and Wicket? And there was a second one, but I'm forgetting the name. I'm sure it is a Very Badtastic Movie, but I loved it as a child. I even had an Ewok village. Man, I loved Ewoks.

My friend dear Gina Marie, whom I haven't seen in nearly five years, is in California visiting relatives. Last night, I picked her up, and today we played Tourist. We started the morning in Santa Monica. Inland, everything was grey and overcast and actually raining at times, but the coast was gorgeous. It was chilly and windy and deserted, but beautiful.

After the beach and the 3rd Street Promenade, Gina and I visited the animal shelter my cats came from. We were very tempted to adopt a little pretty kitty named Gidget. Then it was off to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive, a scenic drive through the steep-and-winding-with-gorgeous-views-from-the-hills neighborhoods, lunch at Mel's Diner, a quick stop in Hollywood to see the Hollywood sign, and then back home to watch Rent before the drive out to Santa Clarita to meet her family for the Exchange at Starbucks.

Whew! It was a great day.

Another scenery shot, this time from the top of the hill. This afternoon, Caitlin, Sean and I went hiking at Fryman. It may not have been the smartest idea, what with this hacking cough I've had for the last two weeks, but it sure was fun!

We took Caitlin's dog. Now, I'm not much of a dog person, so I don't make a point to go up to and pet other people's dogs when I'm passing them on the sidewalk or a hiking trail. It's funny how many people do do that! There's like a little society of Dog People that stop and chat while their dogs circle around and sniff each other's butts. Kinda funny.

I got a floor-length, warm, fluffy red robe for Christmas. While it's much nicer outside today than it was yesterday, it's still pretty chilly inside. I've been wearing the robe, and my red fuzzy slippers, all day over my clothes. When I ran outside to take today's picture, I not only *almost* went out in my slippers and robe, but I almost locked myself out of my apartment! I totally forgot my building is gated, and since I was just running out to the street to snap a picture, I didn't take my keys. If people hadn't been coming out as I was going back in, I'd have been in a very embarrassing situation, locked out of my own building. Luckily, though, not in a red robe and fuzzy slippers.

Anyway. This is the view from my street. That building on the corner there looks a little seedy, but generally it's pretty nice scenery. Pictures never do justice to the whole view, especially when I was trying to not get light poles or cars in the frame. But I will never tire of seeing the hills surrounding me, especially after having gown up in the flat-flat-flat Midwest.

It's the next-to-nextdoor apartment building, which is also Dr. Elliot Reid's building on Scrubs. I've never seen them filming there, so perhaps she's moved in the later seasons. But this building has been featured a number of times in the seasons currently out on DVD. I just think it's kinda fun. :)

My first me!photo of the year, and not looking my best. *laugh* It felt like a looooooong day, as you can tell by my disheveled appearance. Cymbeline and I snuggled in on the couch for some movie watching before bed (The Black Dahlia). It's cold and I had about four blankets, she was warm, and it was nice. Monet had also been curled up against my hip for a good long time, but I didn't have the camera near. When I finally extracted myself to go get it, she decided she was done cuddling.

I actually had a few pictures for today, and I couldn't decide which to post. And there was no one around to ask an opinion of! I just changed my mind and switched the pictures out. Maybe I'll post the extras later.

It's only the 12th day of the year and already I'm having trouble coming up with things to photograph! I'm going to have to get creative, and fast! I tried taking a picture of the pool/courtyard at night, but while it looks cool and colorful and artistic to the naked eye, it is near impossible to get the scene to resolve itself into something equally visually pleasing in a photograph. Maybe a few months down the road when I've figured out the fancy settings on my camera, but not now. Not today.

So. We have the Ultimate Display of Fangirlishness: my Build-a-Bears. Paired with evidence of whatever whoever inspired each one. Can you guess? I almost mixed up the boxes for added interest, but I figure only one (maybe two) is plainly obvious unless you know me, so. There is, from left to right, JC Bear, Dominic Bear, Wash Bear, and Clark Bear. Displayed in the order in which they were made. Wash Bear usually sits on the bookshelf next to Simon Bear, and I felt a little bad leaving Simon Bear out of the picture, but he is not my bear. Sorry, Simon Bear!

If you look real closely (on the small version, I think you'd need a magnifying glass), you can see the little jade Chinese symbol that means either strength or happiness (I forget which) and the little Dory I have hanging from my computer. There's also a book called The Best Things in Life Start With 'K', and an angel... coin-like thing... that can't be seen at all (and might be for either strength or happiness, whichever the jade symbol *doesn't* mean). All of these were gifts given to me from my old office when I came to this one. They make me happy.

I have Abigail the halfling rogue who kicks some serious ass for such a little thing, even though we haven't played that particular game in a while. And Ellyjobel the dwarf wizard, who's slowly but surely becomming more useful. Especially when paired with her twin sister, Ellywick, a ranger. Tonight we solved two riddles and a puzzle and passed two tests of... something... to gain entry to a series of rooms.

We're missing one member of our crew in this picture. We have to enjoy this as long as we can, as two of the Dork Squad will be moving to Texas in a few months. Sad.

Photo Project 2007

So you might be wondering what the preceding pictures are all about. Random things from here and there, not really much "worth" documenting photographically, right? Well, Shelley showed me Project 365: How to Take a Photo a Day and See Your Life in a Whole New Way, and I thought it sounded kinda cool!

I think the point might be to take one picture that sums up your entire day, but if that were the case, I'd have approximately 300 pictures of my office, 60 pictures of things like Target, the grocery store, the gas station, etc, and maybe five cool ones. So I'm just taking one picture a day, period. No deeper meaning to it than that. I think it'd be cool to make it through the entire year, and maybe I will! Who knows. I'm sure going to try.

Also, the fact that I got a new digital camera for Christmas (that I love, love, LOVE!) helped. I'm not sure I could have done this with the old clunker. What better way to break in a new camera than to photojournal a year in your life?

As it turns out, Family Christmas will have to wait approximately two weeks for everyone involved to be available. I fear that the decorations will NOT stick around that long, so photographic evidence seemed appropriate.

All that combined helped a great deal with the being sick. Blah.

2006 In Review

So, it's 2007. I feel this will be a good year. It's the year that will hold my Golden Birthday (27 on the 27th, albeit eleven months from now), it's an odd-numbered year (I'm weird, I like odd numbers best)... so yes. 2007 is looking optimistic. *laugh*

I've been terrible at posting, so I thought I'd do a "quick and dirty" summary of the last few months. Then I thought I'd do an entire 2006 round-up, but didn't manage to finish it IN 2006. So here it is:

2006 in Review

JANUARY: Was with Caitlin when she discovered her apartment had been broken into. Almost got evicted from my apartment over two tiny, adorable, 100% Love kittens. Had a movie film in our apartment; almost got evicted over a broken sliding glass door and said filming. Won a battle to get the security deposit back from the apartment I'd vacated the previous November. It was a month in Apartment Hell, really.

FEBRUARY: Went to Las Vegas with Gen, Meghan and Elenid, where a random guy won $900 using my number in roulette and split his winnings with us. Saw Avenue Q. Bought my laptop. Read a lot of books.

MARCH: Was an extra in the independent film Jake and Ryan are making, got my first SAG hours, should I ever feel compelled to, you know, join SAG. Which I won't. Anyway.

APRIL: My parents drove the car out for my sister to use during her 3-month internship, and she arrived by plane a day later. Our toilet broke and the landlords blamed us. Our kitchen sink backed up and overflowed brown water all over the floor and the landlords blamed us. This actually happened twice. And I "helped out" at the Simi Valley office for two weeks.

MAY: I was offered a promotion to move to the Simi Valley office, fretted over it for many days, and finally accepted the position. Aarti came to visit.

JUNE: Started working crazy-long hours and six-day weeks at work. Had many staffing issues; conducted my first interviews. Went to see Les Miserables.

JULY: Mom came out to drive Jess home from her internship. The three of us went to Vegas, saw Love and Mystere. Had to present my Franchise Review to twelve executives of the bank. Had two more employees resign. Was mostly miserable at work. Survived the Hottest Day Ever in Los Angeles (119*F). The Hallmark Channel filmed a movie with Lea Thompson at my office.

AUGUST: Still mostly miserable at work. Saw Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore at the movies.

SEPTEMBER: Had tiny biting bugs at work that feasted on my legs. EW. Finally got fully-staffed (although not yet a fully-trained staff) at work.

OCTOBER: Got cable TV and internet! One of my new (but crazy) employees resigned. Had my first Saturday off work and had to go in because the cash vault wouldn't open. Walked in the LA AIDS Walk. A movie with Lacey Chabert filmed at my apartment building. Fretted lots about the upcoming audit at work.

NOVEMBER: Fretted more about the audit. Went to see Borat "with" Michael Rosenbaum. Voted. Went to see Aerosmith at the Hollywood Bowl. Got increasingly irritated with my boss. Turned 26. WAS AUDITED AT WORK.

DECEMBER: Had my first ever pedicure. Went to the company Christmas party. Karey visited! Tub and shower backed up and flooded the bathroom. Went home to Chicago for Christmas! Saw The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Shear Madness. Saw lots of friends. Decided it's been a pretty good year, 2006.

~*~*~

Today I go back to California. *sigh* It's so nice to be home. Be with family and friends who have known me for half my life (the friends, I mean, not the family. They've known me all my life. *g*). There are some things I'm looking forward to getting back to, although WORK is not one of them.
