X-Files: William

Tonight's XF blew me away entirely. I adore when David directs....he's so talented. The episode started out hysterical, but by the end, I was highly depressed. Details below.

Wow. Just, wow. I loved the beginning, with Scully singing "Joy to the World" to William. First off, it's hers and Mulder's song which makes it perfect. Second, it was the most maternal interaction we've seen with her since he was born. Third, well, it's just funny, because Scully can't sing but she's very enthusiastic. <.g> I also loved Doggett doing pushups...struggling SO hard as he counts out, "1, 492. 1, 493. 20!" and falls down hard, groaning, "They don't pay me enough." LOL! So perfect. There was continuity, there was mentions of the past, there was humor.

Then the continuity seemed to get messed over, there were still mentions of the past, but it was no longer funny. I agree that Scully doesn't know where Mulder is. But why would she ask, bitter, why Mulder wasn't there if he missed William so much? She knows why.

Okay, and then William. Spender said that he was an alien. That They had used Scully to create him and was using her to raise him. Um, hello? William was supposed to be human! His parents are Mulder and Scully! The aliens saw his birth, saw what he was, and left! And now he's part alien? ACK!

Of course, I guess he's not alien anymore. When Scully gave him up, I was like, "They aren't going to notice that he's moving the mobile on his own?" But I guess Spender cured him of that.

Okay, and the adoption. All of this happened ONE WEEK before William was adopted. They found him a home THAt fast?? And I just can't buy Scully giving him up for adoption or even into foster care....she would do that without Mulder's consent??? She would do that AFTER HE'S HUMAN??? She knows that he's finally a real boy, and THAT'S when she gives him up? What, she only tolerated his presence while he was potentially an alien??? I don't get it! That seems so OFF to me.

The couple who took him in look like wonderful, caring, loving people, but man, it came out of nowhere. I have no clue what will happen in the final few episodes, but hopefully they'll deal with baby William more satisfactorily.

But all my complaints aside, it was a wonderful episode. Of course, my David was involved in the story plotting and he directed, so how could it be anything but? ; )

Comments

So if E taped it, should I watch it? I'm really wanting to see the eps that are consequential to the finale :) I won't read your post about it yet :)

Hmmm. I think this one is definitely going to have an impact on the finale. Maybe not, maybe it was the movie set up. Somewhere down the line, though, this HAS to be addressed. I think you should watch it. You know by the first scene after the teaser what happens, so it doesn't come as a *complete shock. Just a minor one. So, yes. Watch and let me know what you think. : )
