I got the job!!

I AM A LIBRARIAN!! I am! A real live librarian! Me! Your favorite neighborhood Rina. EEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

So it was billed as a second interview, right? 'Cause library lady knew she wanted me hired, but director guy hadn't said. But! He started the conversation with, "So library lady wants you to start on Monday." !!! So we all chatted, and I get to be on a committe right away, and yay! I start Monday! I work Monday afternoon/eveing, Wednesday afternoon/evening, Friday morning and every other Saturday. I get to do the weekly pajama story time! With craft! And OMG I have ideas and I'm so excited and oh my gosh!

Library lady said that, you know, she wouldn't have been happy unless she hired me because I reminded her so much of herself and I was so enthusiastic and excited about it all and she knew she had to make it work. And then it turned out that the scheduler had already printed out a schedule for me, with me on the schedule, so they were all expecting this! And then she stopped, turned and said, "I almost forgot! Do you want the job?" I said, "Yes! Yes, yes, yes." And we laughed and she hugged me goodbye and I'm a librarian!

This is so wild. Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! I got the job!

I'm gonna go dance around like a goof now.

Woe.

My computer is dead. It sparked a great big light yesterday afternoon and cooked. Like major melting smell. And won't turn on.

I called Geek Squad. They said bring it in.
I brought it in. They said call geek squad. They don't do power sources.
I called Geek Squad. They don't do power sources.
Fuck that, I said, you DID do my power source and it broke and I want it fixed!
So we tracked down my agent, they gave me his store's number, and I called them.
Agent is on vacation, how does Oct 5 sound?
Fine.

Argh! The only helpful person was the agent at the last store. Everyone else tried to deny that they could do anything. They don't do power sources in store, they don't do them in house, what, do I need to meet them at the park? Bah. Let's not even get into the fist store agent telling me that he didn't know if my harddrive was okay. ACK! KC suggested getting it backed up by them, and I may bring it in to see if they can. After all, I have until Oct. 5.

Thank God for Winnie. I spent a lot of last night and some this afternoon getting her all set up. I finally have OE running, complete with folders, rules and address book. It's not everything, but I'll get better ideas of what I forgor when e-mails come in looking for a place to go. I have most of my pictures and all of my stories over here already, and a good number of common favorite sites. So, now I wait. And wait and wait and wait. LOL

autumn is here

It's cloudy, rainy, grey and 72 out. I love it! It feels so autumnal. In that sprit, I put on my new flannel sheets.

Before: Quilt, purple gingham sheets
After: Red duvet with red and pink plaid sheets

Cozies up my room. Feels smaller, but comfy. I like them.

What I don't like is that my top CD drawer is kaput. I was importing a CD into iTunes, and it said the disk couldn't be read. It disappeared from my iTunes source list, the green light on it turned off, and it refused to close with the button. Like it doesn't exist. I rebooted, and it worked for a short time - I imported about 6 new songs, but only 3 of them worked. The rest were staticy and then it disappeared before the last song could go on. I'm very unhappy and quite nervous. Bottom drawer still works, but the top is my burner, man! I can't even back my stuff up. Gotta figure this out.

Boredom Slayer

As is happening far too often, I AM BORED. Out of my ever loving mind. Jennie is off being an evacuee in Texas with no phone connection, Biz has her standard Friday night plans and there's still an hour before the premiere of Numb3rs. I have no one to talk to!

(Not to sound callous about Jennie, because Lord knows I've worried about her, but she's safe in SA with family and her apt seems to be out of the line of danger as well.)

I spent money today! And shall see the results in 6-8 weeks. See below for my BPAL goodies. Meanwhile, below are the shoes that will be my next purchase:Pretty Gritty.

I've never had cause to wear pumps before, as I tend to work with 3-8 year olds and need to be able to do gym class and run around chasing them, but these will come in handy for job interviews or working in a library. I shall feel quite Lorelai-ish in them.

BEWITCHED
Deep, luscious green and berry scents that evoke images of woodland witchcraft and the raw power of nature: blackberry, sage, green tea, wild berries and dark musk. (Bewitching Brews)

ECLIPSE
All the glory, warmth and majesty of the sun -- darkened. A delicious blend of bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon. (Bewitching Brews)

JACK
The scent of warm, glowing jack o'lanterns on a warm autumn night: true Halloween pumpkin, spiced with nutmeg, glowing peach and murky clove. (Bewitching Brews)

HELLCAT
A soft, sensual, luxuriant blend with a wicked bite: hazelnut, buttercream, honey mead, rum and sweet almond. (Diabolous)

MATA HARI
A renowned exotic dancer and courtesan, possessed of aristocratic elegance, matchless charm, an iron will and a streak of fearlessness. The actual events of her life have met with much speculation, and to this day it is unclear whether or not she was truly a German spy. Despite shaky evidence of her guilt, she was tried for espionage by a closed court-martial and was executed by a French firing squad in 1917. Her scent is striking and bold with a delicate yet dark undertone: five roses with soft jasmine, warmed by vanilla, fig, tonka bean and mahogany, spiced with a drop of coffee bean. (Bewitching Brews)

KYOTO
A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise. (Wanderlust)

SAMHAIN 2005
Revisited! All the depth, beauty and darkness of All Hallows Eve. Truly the scent of autumn itself -- damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, sweet red apple and mullein. (LE)

19,203 to go

I deleted all of the 2000 spam trackbacks, and 10,000 of the 29,000 spam comments. Whew. This'll take a while to get perfect. LOL

I love summertime, but this 10 weeks of no paychecks thing is murder. I've been super good and not spent any money from my checking account the last 3 weeks except for the Sims2 Nightlife game, a planned purchase. I turn in my first timesheet tomorrow, so I'm only 2 weeks from getting paid again. It's a paltry amount, but will double my bank account, I believe. I'm very excited. I miss buying things. I have such a yen to go to Old Navy and the Gap. And Sephora! OMG and Aerosoles...I NEED NEW SHOES. In the way that I desperately want new shoes and don't need them at all. I want to buy things!!! Ack. Maybe I can hit Old Navy this weekend, I know I have $50 of gift cards. Actually, I bet Gap would take them, too, since it's the same company. Hmmm.

I was debating how to handle Lost vs. Veronica Mars premiere's this week. Then I realized that Veronica starts next week and CBS is showing Grave Danger, CSI's finale, tonight. Bye Bye Lost. No competition here. I can't wait to see it again. I saw it in May, but didn't remember the characters as much as I should have. Then I lost it in TiVo accident #3 and while I saw bits of it on my computer, it lacks the punch of TV. Eeeeeee, sad scary Nicky!in!A!Box!

Emmy talk

I love James Spader. He makes dorky look hot, totally. The glasses, man.

None of my shows were nominated, so no spoilers here. Just squee over dresses.

Lauren Graham: Beautiful in red.
Marg Helgenberg: Beautiful and natural looking. Great dress, lovely color, and perfect makeup. She looks far better than Catherine normally does.
Patricia Arquettte: 40s glam done right. I love her hair.
Felicity Huffman: Beautiful and cute and a doll all around.
Marcia Cross: Gorgeous.
Aly Hannigan: Interested dress, adorable hair that I covet.

Kristen Bell sang very well, and I totally fell in love with Gary Dourdan. What a smile!! Warrick doesn't smile enough.

I want to find pictures of all these lovlies. Hopefully they'll pop up overnight!

(Bah to the Emmy Idol winner. LOL) Ellen is cracking me up, Portia is gorgeous, and I love that Ellen's mom is sitting with her and the Arrested Development crew. Sweet. I love Whoopi's magnolia in her hair. I'm such a fan of hers. She's one of the celebrities I'd love to be friends with (along with Lauren, Felicity, and Ellen.) They all seem so cool.

Nightlife, baby

Gah, I am so addicted to Nightlife. It's insane.

Most of my fun stuff is Luke and Lorelai...they're not engaged, but they've been on a few dates. My favorite bits: woohooing in Luke's truck outside the diner, and Luke suddenly having a desire to buy Lorelai coffee. He also wants to have a baby with her, and be married to her. I've never seen that before...want to get engaged, yes. But never skipping that and wanting to be married. It's so Luke!

Tonight I played the college set - Harry, Ron, Hermione and Rory. Ron and Hermione have dated, woohooed and want to get engaged, Harry and Rory the same. What's annyoing is that Harry is attracted to not only Rory, but Lorelai and Hermione. And frankly, Ron fancies Hermione and Rory. There are lots of little hearts floating around the dorm. LOL Harry and Ron play chess all the time, and Rory listens to her MP3s. It's all rather cute. Now they're seniors, so I'll let them get engaged. They'll be plenty happy. *g*

C was sick today, so I didn't get to work with her. : ( It was funny, M called at 9 to cancel, because C had woken up okay, but then went back to lie down. While M was on the phone, she came back down asking when I was coming, insisting she see me, so M said we'd try it. An hour later, she re-canceled. Bah. Then Scott's mom called to ask about babysitting, but it was during Josh's soccer time. Gah! This is what I get for earmarking the money I had anticipated making with these kids for perfume oils. I lose the money. LOL Oh, well. Hopefully C will be better tomorrow. I like seeing her.

I ordered my winter bed flannels last week: LL Bean Mix and Match. I got red plaid sheets, pink pillowcases and the red comforter. The comforter came today....it's SO RED. I love red, it's so bright and cheery, but dude. This is a very vibrant red. My room is rather pastely. Antique white walls, soft blue and pink flowered border, pink rug, etc. This is going to do wild and crazy things to my room. I think that'll be good. Worst case scenario, I spend another $30 on a lighter shade duvet cover. But I think it's going to be very cozy and fun.

my girls

Work has been delightful so far. I suppose we're still in our honeymoon period, but Noneck and I have been together since December, so I think we're out of that period. LOL But really, she just blossomed over the summer. She's so much taller and more attentive and outgoing. It's so cool to see. I'm really proud of her.

C is equally delightful. We hung out last night while her parents were out - did the dinner scene, some homework, and watched Gilmore Girls. LOL She's in love with Luke/Lorelai, which I, naturally, encouraged. <.g> She's so funny. She was dancing around, planning their wedding after I told her that Lorelai had proposed to Luke. That's all she needed to hear - didn't matter if Luke said no, she was sure that eventually he'd be putting on that bow tie and Lorelai would have a veil and they'd get married. She's so entertaining. LOL She also walked Trixie for me and played with her. Too cute.

Now I just need an afternoon job. I have the library interview tomorrow...eek! I'm nervous. Must prepare tonight. Or this afternoon. Amazon says Nightlife will be delivered tomorrow, but it's in my state currently, in Addison, so you never know!

QuickPost test

I never tried the QuickPost before. Looks like fun. As a test, these are the drapes I want to get for my room.

Decorating with Lace Lily of the Valley Pattern

New look

Welcome to the new Blue Roses! Krissy spent hours upgrading me and Kate to MT 3.2 and getting everything working nicely. This default won't stay for long...I envision fun colors coming <.g>...but looks how cool everything looks! I'm so excited. I'm going to play around and figure out other things I can do here too. Such fun!

Look, comments work again, too!

Meanwhile, I go back to playing around and learning the ropes. Wish me luck!!

September 09, 2005

hurrah, hurrah

Tomorrow is our second annual garage sale. Eeeep! We have some good things for sale. I'm getting rid of a few fannish acquisitions...XF movie collectors box, a lot of Harry Potter stuff. While cleaning out college stuff in the basement to sell, I found stuff I've been looking for. Now I have all the HP books back in my room, and the last Jasper Fforde book, which I've been wanting to reread forever. I also found a large number of pictures from when I was a kid. Holy crap, was I cute. Seriously! Until I was about 7, I was the cutest thing ever. Not one clue what happened. LOL

Gacked from Krissy:

Your Brain's Pattern

You have a dreamy mind, full of fancy and fantasy.

You have the ability to stay forever entertained with your thoughts.

People may say you're hard to read, but that's because you're so internally focused.

But when you do share what you're thinking, people are impressed with your imagination.

I'd say that's really quite accurate. I'm sure it's probably distracting to people, how I can just be sitting or walking somewhere, grinning or laughing to myself. LOL

In less than a week, I shall be playing Sims 2 Nightlife. Wheeee!!!!

I can't believe I almost forgot - I have a job interview on Thursday. Library next town over, in the children's room. I'm quite excited.

Meanwhile, I am tired and think I shall watch CSI. I rode the stationery bike during Gilmore today - 11 miles in one hour. Not shabby, but it kind of felt like cheating because it was easier than the treadmill. LOL

September 06, 2005

Lorelai Stewart

I'm determined to lose weight and get more healthy again. So, I've devised a "look more like Lorelai than Babette" campaign. The battle plan involves using the stationery bike or treadmill for the hour each day that I watch Gilmore Girls. I was on the treadmill today - boring, yet effective. 2 miles in 1 hour, 350 calories burned. Plus I walked for an hour at the zoo today with Mom, Josh and some very quiet med students. Not bad at all.

Note to self: call L tomorrow and find out what time you need to be at work on Thursday.

I can't wait for Sims 2 Nightlife! Eeee! Dating and cars and proposals over dinner. Luke and Lorelai are going to have a grand time. And - synchronized dancing and karaoke: Hello Sim!Sync! Heeee!

return a mi, cara mia su amor

Return to Me is airing on Lifetime now. I am so excited! I've been wanting to rewatch this movie for ages. Long time readers of this blog know how much I love and adore David Duchovny, and he made the perfect movie in my city, bless his heart. Bonnie Hunt is hysterical and the writing is fabulous and it's just a lovely movie.

Liss and I are talking about going to see the Downers Grove Plowboys play ball. They use 1858 regulations, rules and outfits. Should be a blast! Also a plus is that it's totally free, and that fits my budget perfectly.

Awwww, David and his wife are dancing to Return to Me. Always makes me cry as they segue from them dancing and happy to him bloody and running with her stretcher down the hallway, all with Return to Me playing a capella in the background. Beautiful, beautiful, and so sad.

Dad got me a new toy - an i-Dog. It dances and barks and moves in time to the music, and it's mood depends on how often you use it and what kind of music you play. How freaking cute is that? LOL

Now I have a craving for cake. LOL Perhaps it's time to make that box of cinnamin swirl cake I have in the pantry.

Septiembre

Only one more week of summer vacation. Sigh. I can't believe it's already September. Everything flew by.

Still only partially employed, but hey, they gave me a raise.

Also with September comes my new TV watching schedule. This season, I think all I'm watching is Gilmore Girls, CSI and Numb3rs, with dashes of Alton Brown thrown in for good measure. There are shows I'd like to try (How I Met Your Mother, with Aly Hannigan, and Reunion, that murder mystery show where each epiosde is one year in the countdown to the high school reunion), but I believe they both conflict with other shows. I'd watch Stargate Atlantis and Firefly, except SciFi got put on digital cable, which I don't have in my room. So, it shall be a 3 show season. But what awesome 3 shows they are!

Kate and I are talking about upgrading to MT3.2, and paying for the personal license. We could use some of those features, like the blacklist and spam stuff, and getting our comments back. And poor Gen! She hasn't even been able to log in for a year. Yes, it's time to get a supported blog. LOL I shall assess my finances after my Sims 2 Nightlife payment goes through on September 15 and likely get it then.

I'm already planning my holiday cards for December. I love that time of year. LOL It's so much fun sending out cards, and it's doubly fun for me, since I like to send little craft-gifts inside. Last year I made paper snowflakes and painted them with sparkly paint. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm doing this year. I'll have to get everything once I get paid in October, because I think it'll take time to get it all done!

I love this time of year, too. It's been so deliciously cool and breezy lately. (Of course, much of that has to do with Katrina, which is heartbreaking. Any time there's a hurricane in the south east, IL gets great clear weather. Ouch.) Mom and I have already decorated the house for autumn. (I much prefer autumn to fall. It makes it seem so special.) The front room especially is quite cozy. Of course, with fall (this sentence deserves a 'fall') comes allergies and I can't actually smell anything or breathe, but it'll pass. Eventually. LOL

I must tend to my Trixie pup. Not a real one, sadly - I have Nintendogs now! I love Nintendogs. Trixie is my pug and she's the cutest thing ever. I've taught her some tricks, and she came in first in the beginners agility test. I'm so proud of her! Because it's on the DS system, I use my voice to train her and the touch screen to pet her. It's fantastic. So, off I go to "walk" her.
