quilting

I'm trying to find things to do offline this semester, and one of them is quilting. As of yesterday, I was finally done with the pinwheely cutting thing of doom, for now, but now I have to, like, figure out how to sew. By hand. Which I theoretically know how to do. But, um, yeah. Straight line will be quite interesting. I've never been known for that. I prefer the wibble wobble approach. <.g>

Seriously, though. They're all, "Rotary cutter, yay!" and I'm all, "eeek!" Although I will admit that my red blood went nicely with the pink fabric. I just couldn't get it to cut all the way through the fabric, usually! I had to, like, detach it! And then use scissors anyway to trim rough edges. So, yes, this does not totally match the pattern. And it's uneven. And I can't guarantee the star will, like, lie flat or meet up. But I should improve over time. Right? Please tell me I'm right. LOL

Oh, well. It may not turn out perfect, but it's super cute colors (pink star on a dark blue plaid background) and I'm having fun making it. And it should provide me with a few stories. <.g> Meanwhile, though, the next step IS stitching. And I have no idea if I know what I'm doing. Eeek?

F5

Work is kinda getting done. In, you know, a way. LOL Meanwhile.

1. As a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? Why?
Jem! Oh, man, I adored her. She could sing and ran a home for orphans and was in a rock band! What wasn't to love? (Although admittedly, I found myself following Kimber's path over Jem/Jerrica's. Sidekick syndrome? LOL)

2. What was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got?
I don't know, man. From what I can remember, all I ever wanted as a kid was books and a video camera. I got the video camera when I was 9, and people never saw a problem giving me books. Any music or dolls I wanted, I saved for and bought myself.

3. What's the furthest from home you've been?
Germany! Summer after freshman year in HS, my first year of taking the language. I would love nothing more than to go back, honestly. It was beautiful there.

4. What's one thing you've always wanted to learn but haven't yet?
Knitting! I want to knit. I'm starting to quilt now, but I want to knit things. And sew dresses in a 1940s style. But I'm starting slow. <.g>

5. What are your plans for the weekend?
Homework, for the most part. Work on some stories. Prep things to mail on monday.

Thursday Thirteen

From Squashed. Gacked from a number of sites. <.g>

1 - How many pens do you own?

A fair amount. Black for classes, sparkly for fun.

2 - How many notebooks?

A really lot, man. Three or four chubby nsync ones for random things, big random ones for fics, class notesbooks. They're all over the place.

3 - Do you have any bad habits you want to break? Name one.

Procrastination is something I should get over, I feel. LOL

4 - Do you keep a personal journal that no one sees? Have you ever?

Not right now, but I have in the past.

5 - If there were no obstacles to you living anywhere in the world you wanted, where would it be?

Hmmm. Perhaps Prince Edward Island? If I could keep the magic it has for me now, anyway. No one place has otherwise ever really called to me, but some place on the East Coast with a lot of history. I'd like that.

6 - What's your favourite colour and is there a reason it's your favourite?

Blue. It's just so pretty and calming. It can be dark or bright, fade away or stand out. It's all around neat.

7 - Is Coca-Cola the real thing?

Yup. I wouldn't have said that before this summer, but there you go. I love coke.

- What is your favourite animal and why?

I love small dogs. They're cuddly and personable and cute.

9 - How much sleep a night do you need? How much do you usually "get by" on?

I need about 8, I think. I'm getting more this semester - usually between 7 and 10 a night. I've been overly tired lately.

10 - Do you know what Blue's Clues is? If yes, are you sad that Steve left?

Yup. And yes, I was. But I love Joe. A lot.

11 - Is a box of brand new crayons (the big one with 96 colours) and a pad of blanc paper an invitation to draw or to write?

Draw! I hadn't colored/drawn before this summer with my kidlets, and I had no idea it was so much fun.

12 - Do you eat ice cream in the winter? What is your favourite flavour?

Yup. LOL I'm currently a big fan of Ben and Jerry's To Russia with Buzz, which I affectionately call the Lance ice cream. (Because of the Russia and space connotations. <.g>)

13 - Is it cold enough for you?

Lord, yes. I can't wait for spring. Or the 50s on Sunday.

my BOY!

I'm just posting this everywhere, but my goodness, I'm dying over here!!! My sweet, silly, creative boy!

Okay, Background: When I was home, I gave Josh two General Hospital tapes. He loves 'em. One broke already, the other will today. Also, Josh uses a communication device, the DynaMyte. He had been hollering up a storm while mom was on the phone, so she took away all his DVDs. Then took her book and the 'myte to read and let Josh calm down.

mom: so he comes over and says I AM READY STOP TO THE HOLLER.
mom: I recognized what he said then resumed reading.
mom: He repeated it.
mom: then he said
mom: Okay baby. Then he kissed me.
mom: OKAY BABY.
mom: Then the pucker.
me: LOLOLOL!
mom: I gave him his DVD;s.
me: Where the hell did he pick THAT up?! LOL
mom: WHO KNOWS!
me: LOL!!!! of course! You had to! LOL
mom: then he says,
mom: then he says LETS NEGOTIATE THIS.
mom: 4 FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL.

OKAY BABY. Oh, my Lord, that phrase is going to kill me for forever and a day. LOL and LET'S NEGOTIATE THIS! Eeee! My baby is so cute. <.g>

done!

Work has been quit! Boss-lady was pleasant and understanding. I was stunned. <.g>

{{HUGS}} to miggie and holly - thanks for the well wishes, guys! And man, Holly, I've missed you. : )

Super cold again here, today, only less so. <.g> -6 when I woke up. Um, not conducive to class-doing. Bad me! But I figure this way, I'll have to meet someone on Monday to get notes. ::nods::

Jazz was....interesting. It was better than last time, but she seems to think we know more than we do. I think it's more hip hop than anything, but I love the music. But she'll show us part of a dance, ask if it's okay, and we say yes. Then she adds to it! A really lot! And then we go, and we all get messed up, and pretty much just fling our arms out and shake. <.g> At least I'm not the only frustrated one - most of the class was quietly freaking out. LOL But I love the dancing, so I think I'll stick with it.

Super tired and unproductive today. but I packed, because I am GOING HOME tonight!! Wheee! I can't wait to see my family again. I've missed them. I hated the short break.

So, today I pick up my last paycheck, most likely grab a sandwich at Panera, deposit said paycheck, and get ready for home. I'm excited, man.

January 23, 2003

so

Work has been unbearable, decisions have been made. Moment of reckoning in about an hour. I haven't said much here because I can't lock posts.

Had my one class yesterday, archeology and ancient Egypt. Gonna love it, man. A really lot. ::nods:: I won't mind 8am for this class.

It's COLD. It's currently -4 with a windchill of -26. We're going up to 3 today! Wheeee? Fricking COLD.

So. Going to work at 9:30. Class at 10, class at 11:30, class at 1, class at 2:30, class at 5. LOL Doesn't that just sound fun? But it actually is. I hope I get into the 2:30 class!! Although the 10 class wouldn't be bad, either - more work, little less fun (movies rather than politics), but still a good class.

Tonight is my mom's chat with DynamicDuos - we're really looking forward to it. We're doing it in the s-d chat room -Lady K? Any way to save that you know of? Other than copying and pasting into an external document? <.g>

Okay, cold now. LOL Let's see, what I need to get done today:
get dressed, eat breakfast, pick up transcripts, talk to boss-lady, hit classes, stay warm, write blurb about SibShops, read for class. Really bearable, I think.

So. Of to get dressed. Need something cute and confidence inspiring today.

Classes

This may get long. On the other hand, it may not, because I may fall asleep during the writing of it.

So. Got to work at 8. Worked until 10. Boss-lady is so mean. And she thinks anyone not her is stupid. And sometimes she makes me want to cry. Definitely makes me not want to work there ever again.

First class was at 10. I have a very good shot at getting into this. It's a film class, and it seems like a lot of work, but I think it would be my only class that did involve a lot of work. So. But tomorrow is the first movie - EEEK! too soon! But it's Psycho, which I've already seen. We'll see, man. I wouldn't hate the class, but I wouldn't love it.

Next was Severe and Hazardous Weather, at 11:30, which I'm already in. And I adore it. Like, so much. Oh, my gosh, I'm such a geek, but I called my mom immediately after and just squealed. I'm actually excited about doing the homework, man. It's all wonderful, 100%. I adore the teacher, and can't wait for the next class.

Next was Greek and Roman Mythology at 1. Again, loved it. He told us a myth today, to demonstrate what we'll do, and he put up slides with art work showing the story. And some were classic paintings, and others....well, it was the myth about Europa, and he was talking about how they were walking down the street and saw lots of cows and were impressed. but then they saw a bull, and just adored it. 'Cause they didn't get out much. <.g> And it was a special bull, and he showed us a picture of....Michael Jordan. <.g> And the bull could change forms, because it was Zeus, and it could end up in a Wizard's uniform. <.g> He cracked me up, man. It'll be an easy, fun class that I will love.

Next came Politics and the Media at 2:30. I might get in. I was #43 on the waiting list at the start of the hour, and #19 at the end. So. Long shot, but you never know. Oh, my God, I want to be in this class. A lot of work, yes, but so worth it. I would gladly, gladly do this work. For the first part of the class, we watched Clinton's Lewinsky broadcast that was five years ago today, and we analyzed why he chose that medium, and the camera angle and the colors and the location and it was SO COOL. Seriously. And then we talked about all sorts of things, and he said straight out if that we do go to war in the semester, the syllabus goes straight out the window, man, and we cover what's happening. I would love nothing more than that, seriously.

Hey, anyone know how you go about auditing a class? Seriously. No credit, just going to go. I would so do that.

So, yes, loved that class, and will keep going to it until I get in or there's no chance of it. Which means I also have to keep going to the film class, just in case. Which means more 10 hour days. EEEEK.

'Cause next was jazz dance. And for those playing along, yes, I went straight from 8-6:30 with only two half hour breaks. Wheeee. This class was scary, man. I'm not an overly touchy-feely person. I hug and cuddle my brother alot, and there are friends I don't mind hugging or cuddling with. Like, it took years, but Carol, my mini-me, is now allowed to drape herself over me and it doesn't faze me. Or this girl at work who has this thing about touching - I've never had my hair played with, arms or waist touched or ass smacked so much in my life. But that's what she does, and surprisingly enough, I don't mind. (Well, I minded the hair thing today. When I was, um, crawling on the ground nearly underneath her, looking for a customer's packet. I may have been asking for it, however.)

So, anyway, yeah. Those are my exceptions, as much as I may want to be, I am not touchy-feely. Today, the teacher announced that she found that non-major dancers had problems touching themselves and others. Yes, I can see that. I do. I, however, don't think of that as a bad thing. <.g> Neither does my friend Meg, who is also in that class. Thank God we were paired together, because the entire class today was contact dancing. First we had to touch ourselves all over. Then we were partnered up, and had to do this weird thing where we always had to be in contact. Then the instructor kept talking about the sexualness of the touching, and it was just weird. Then we had to walk, which I could do just fine, but then we had to walk and hold hands and link arms. And then we did these weird things where we rolled over each other, and man, she really overestimated the amount of things we'd do with complete strangers. If Meg hadn't been there, and I HAD been partnered with a total stranger? I don't know, man. LOL That's just too much for me, you know? Maybe I'm a freak, but it's worked so far. <.g>

Hmmm. This did get long. Sorry? I crawled home after 6, took a shower, watched Buffy and ate dinner, and now plan to go to sleep. At least I made it an hour later than last night. I taped the wedding special, but there's just no way I can stay awake! It'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I don't wanna goto work tomorrow. <.whimper> But I get to have my archaeology class tomorrow! ::thinks about bouncing:: ::can't move::

January 18, 2003

sleepy, yet...

I don't want to go to sleep. Except I do, but I don't want to have to wake up and go to work. :/

At least we're going in late tomorrow. Dorms open at 9, and some people here need to move out. <.g> So, yeah. Not so much with the leaving for work at 8:45 as usual, but at 9:15. Extra 30 minutes of sleep, yeah!!

Working tomorrow morning, Monday morning, Thursday and Friday night 6-10, in addition to pretty much whenever I'm not in classes. Can I, like, cry now? Since I signed up for the wrong class back in November, I'm still trying to find one to replace it. Which means, I warned Jamie, I'm visiting a few classes to decide which I like best. LOL Dude, at this point, though, anything but Pan-Chinese cinema is a winner.

Gah, must buy books tomorrow. I've been meaning to for days, and I keep forgetting! At least at this point, there's only three classes to buy for. Archeology, Mythology and Severe Weather. Hopefully it won't be too much. ::frets:: At least dance and the clinic won't have anything to buy.

All right. Must needs to bed now. Oh, saw About a Boy tonight - it was pretty good. Different from the novel. I think I liked this ending better, although it may have been pretty much the same as the book's, only toned down. I never had been sure I liked the book's ending, in regards to Marcus. Seemed like a pretty crappy theory about life to have. But this was good.

And now I sleep.

ATTN: West Wing Fans!

Attention! Everyone needs to watch West Wing tonight! Okay, I know my subject says attn: to west wing fans, but dude. EVERYONE needs to watch!

Especially the trout fishing scene. Why? Because that was filmed at Graue Mill, just blocks from my house. My neighborhood! They drove past my house! So, yes. Everyone watch. <.g>

Me, I'll be at work. <.sob>

Cordy/Charisma

Now this is a twist.

Angel Star Pregnant
World Entertainment News Network

CHARISMA CARPENTER is to have a baby - and her on-screen character will follow suit.

The ANGEL actress is due to give birth in March, though she kept the secret - and her shot gun wedding to DAMIAN HARDY - from television bosses. Now they have been forced to re-write the script, incorporating a naughty night of nookie for CORDELIA with Angel's teenage son CONNOR.

She says, "I am due to film on through March but I don't know if I will be able to... my waters might break on set! So far they have been camouflaging my condition by putting me in long coats."

So the baby will be Connor's? EW! She was like his mom when he was a baby. Oh, well, it's not like I can watch anymore. It's on opposite West Wing now. : ( So, no more Angel.

But congrats to Charisma. : )

January 13, 2003

I did it!

Thanks to the wonderfulness of Kristine, this place looks human again. <.g> So, welcome to the Valentine's design that wasn't supposed to be a Valentine's design. <.giggle> Oh, well. It's cute, and will do nicely for the next month or so.

Also, updated some side bar stuff.

Watching the AMAs as I did this. Justin and JC are so cute, man. Justin was supposed to present with Aimee Osbourne, but I guess she backed out. He and Sharon were adorable though, and he kissed the dog with great grace. <.g> Much fun, man. I taped the nsync bits, so I can actually watch later. I was more listening and squeeing over figuring out certain bits of MT/CSS stuff. LOL

I think, however, I need dinner at the next commerical. ::nods::

Big 1-4-0-0

I've done 1400 posts so far! Pretty neat. But also pretty sad, since there should be many more. I was so good at blogging. I blogged more than anyone wanted to read. And now I really suck at it. Even when I have something to say, I don't feel like typing here. And dude, MT is my homepage. Every time I open IE, it pops up to say, "Post now!" And I ignore it.

But I've been playing with some stuff. Not a lot, but some stuff. In an effort to figure out MT, because maybe that's my problem. All I really know how to do is post. Okay, and a few other things, too, but I don't know codes. And I don't know about all the trackers Lady K posts about. It's all gibberish to me. I at least understood Blogger, so I played around and stuff. Well, time to start playing here. Because I want to have fun with this again. I want to know about track backs and pings and reads and stuff.

So. I have a new design. Kinda. Not really, but I'm trying. LOL I have a header and new colors, we'll work from there. This place is gonna look messy for awhile, and then it may revert back to cherries while I go whimpering off to find directions. <.g> So I'm gonna try and see what I can change and what my changes do.

Wish me luck.

January 10, 2003

how much do I suck? let us count the ways

It has been FAR too long since I updated. I meant to post on Christmas to squee about what a good day it was, but we ended up going to Wendy's at 10pm, when I was just signing on. From there, there was just no time!

But now I'm back. From outer space? Or at least the Chicago suburbs. Break was excellent, man. I had so much fun with my family, and with Liss, and I built a bear! 'Cause, see, Jennie gave me a stuffed penguin she built, named Lance, for Christmas. And Lance needed a friend. So I built a stuffed Joey-bear, with jeans and a t-shirt and faded denim shorts. (Lance is in leather pants and a white t-shirt that has a red star on it, and sunglasses.) They are too adorable for words.

Work sucks. We alternate days/morning shifts. So I got 24 hours off today (3pm yesterday to 3pm today), but I work 3-9 tonight and then 9-3 in the morning. It's no fun. Things are still really slow, which means next week will be HELL, man. Silly procrastinating teachers. Boss-lady doesn't like me, but she doesn't seem to like anyone, really.

Nic is introducing me to trashy TV shows. Last night, we watched WB's lineup of that HS Reunion Show and The Surreal Life. It was amusing to mock everything they did and said. ::nods:: Then I watched ER, which is less trashy, although you wouldn't know it from the electroejaculator person. LOL Jennie and I watched together over the phone, which was fun.

Speaking of. Man, for the first time EVER, I have spring break plans/invites. Too many of them! Well, two. LOL MA and I are considering going to NYC to stay with Amy and check out Columbia if that's still an option. And now Jennie invited me to stay with her for a few days! Plus, Justin's doing a spring club tour and summer arena one, and we had planned to get together for one of his concerts. And now apparently JC's doing a spring tour? We'd have to try for that, too. So I don't know. LOL I have time to decide, though.

I should probably take a shower now. Hopefully, man, it won't be such a long time between posts!
